Job Description

Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC) in Topeka, KS is seeking an Experienced Construction Inspector to join our team. The role involves inspecting and reporting on various types of construction projects, including civil, municipal, architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and environmental disciplines, to ensure compliance with regulations and contract specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect various types of construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and contract specifications.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings and perform checks on different types of construction drawings, including infrastructure, transportation, subdivision, and site plans.
  • Attend pre-bid and pre-construction meetings, respond to questions, resolve problems, and make recommendations for necessary changes.
  • Complete and maintain daily/weekly inspection reports, track contractor pay item quantities, review contractor pay estimates, schedule and observe testing, conduct final inspections, and prepare written punch lists.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative and professional relationships with employees, managers, and representatives from other departments and organizations.
  • Investigate and respond to citizen complaints regarding construction sites or related ordinance violations and may testify in court if necessary.
  • Provide materials testing, such as nuclear density testing and/or concrete field testing, on projects as needed.
  • Perform physical activities such as standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing, lifting, and working in various environmental conditions.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Five or more years of construction inspection experience preferred.
  • KDOT Inspection Experience and KDOT CITT and American Concrete Institute (ACI) Certifications preferred.
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, and techniques of civil construction and commercial development, as well as city, state, and federal codes, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to construction projects.
  • Considerable skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents, and ability to perform required mathematical computations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word, and experience with word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be physically capable of moving about on construction worksites.
